Tammy and her husband Bob live at the HEART lodge in Kenya about 8 months out of the year. Tammy has worked with children for the last 25 years. As Director of Children’s Ministry, she conducts events for children all over Kenya, teaching them basic health skills and the Bible.
CARLA HEINECKE, M.ED.
Education Resource Specialist
As a retired Special Education Resource teacher, Carla now enjoys time editing for HEART and her sister, Vickie Winkler. Teaching Bible and sharing music in Kenya and the USA is her passion. In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Carla is a licensed, bilingual Care Pastor at Passion Church at her son’s church. She has authored her first children’s book based on her childhood in the Idaho mountains. Her three grandchildren are her pride and joy.
MARY LOU NAYLOR, PH.D.
Education Programs Specialist
Dr. Naylor has an extensive background in Career Technical Education and After School Programs. She has also been a college professor in California and Colorado in teacher education and worked in Career Technical Education with the California Department of Education and currently with the Arizona Department of Education, helping high poverty schools conduct after school programs.
LAURA L. VAN AUKER, PHN, MSN, FNP, DNPc
Laura brings over 30 years of experience in community health as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Public Health Nurse. Her passion for rural community health at both the local and global levels has lead her to many mission experiences from Mexico, to Kenya and Peru. Her medical background includes over 25 years as a Nurse Practitioner with Sutter Medical Group in Family Practice as well as a dozen years as a Credentialed School Nurse working with at risk and medically fragile adolescents in Northern California. Past work in Public Health includes certification as an STD Clinician Specialist. She is excited to have been recently accepted into the Doctorate in Nursing Program at Oregon Health and Science University with a focus in Rural and Global Healthcare, researching areas of healthcare access and disparity for at-risk populations.
